The National Service Bill was passed in March 1967 by Defence Minister Goh Keng Swee. An initial batch of some 9,000 male youths born between 1 January 1949 and 30 June 1949 were eligible to be called up for NS. The artefact is a call up notice, meant to inform eligible youths for registration. This artefact was part of the selection in the time capsule buried in 1990 by then DPM Ong Teng Cheong to celebrate Singapore’s 50th anniversary of independence in 2015.
