The plans for building the National Theatre were announced by Minister for Culture S Rajaratnam on 7 November 1959. At that speech, he called upon Singaporeans to contribute generously to the building fund. In 1961, the “One Dollar One Brick” campaign was launched to aid in the fundraising. This coupon indicates the one dollar value of the donation, and features a coloured illustrated view of the National Theatre.
