Indigo blue bowl and lid

This indigo blue covered bowl is decorated with large peonies and auspicious Buddhist emblems along the edge on a rose pink ground. Based on its size, it was likely used to serve main dishes with gravy. It could have been part of a larger commissioned dining ware service. A full set of dinner wares could consist of hundreds of pieces and a wide range of shapes and sizes. This service would have been used during a tok panjang, or a large feast celebrating special occasions for Peranakan families
