This cap from Lucknow is a fine example of the Lucknow based craft of mukaish, which is embroidery using fine, flattened metal strips instead of thread. While mukaish is most commonly used as tiny glittering dots over woven patterns (much like sequins), the more painstaking kamdani style of mukaish embroidery creates large motifs with the metal ribbons, such as the patterns created all over this cap.
