This document was issued by Drew & Napier on 7th January 1901 (suit no. 483/2 of 1900). The plaintiff was Crisants Liehance and the defendant was Riley Hargreaves & Company Limited. Riley Hargreaves was established by Richard Riley and William Hargreaves in 1865. They built bridges, steamers and the Fort Canning Lighthouse. In 1912, the company merged with another engineering firm, Howarth Erskine & Co, who specialised in the design and construction of iron and steel structures and waterworks, to form United Engineers Limited.Drew & Napier was founded in 1889 by Alfred Henry Drew and Walter John Napier. Napier was a very accomplished lawyer who became the Attorney General of Singapore from 1907 to 1909. He was eventually knighted in 1909. The company has grown into one of the largest law firms in Singapore, and has represented many prominent leaders in government and industry. Many notable legal and political figures once worked for the firm, including Chief Mininster of Singapore, David Marshall and Minister of Law K. Shanmugam.
