Coffee pot

This is a green coffee pot with a pink ogival panel decorated with a phoenix and peony. Coffee pots tended to come in several sizes and this proposed piece is a medium sized example. Porcelain coffee pots like this were commissioned sometime in the early 20th century by the Peranakan Chinese in Singapore, Malacca and Penang. This was a new form in the range of commissioned nyonyaware. Previous forms were largely derived from Chinese porcelain forms, where coffee drinking was not common. Peranakans were fond of drinking coffee and these pieces were largely commissioned by wealthy families for use during weddings and special occasions.
