Flute

This flute is made in the form of a stalk of bamboo. End-blown flutes of this type, called xiao, are usually made in bamboo. However, porcelain ones have certain advantages – primarily, the smoothness of the inner glazed surface and its ability to withstand changes in humidity. They were produced at Dehua, China, by the mid-17th century in large numbers. An inscription on the end, 鳳鳴 (Feng Ming), translates to “Call of the Phoenix.”
