The songs on this record, “South American Way” and “Scrub Me Mama, With a Boogie Beat” were recorded by The Andrew Sisters. The Andrews Sisters recorded the most successful pop version of “Scrub Me Mama, with a Boogie Beat”. The song is now best known as the centrepiece of the 1941 Walter Lantz cartoon of the same name. These songs were recorded by Brunswick record company, which was established in 1916. Music from England and America were gaining popularity amongst Peranakans in Singapore and the Straits during the early 20th century. Musical bands and troupes were formed during this period and they would perform at celebratory occasions organized by Peranakans such as birthdays and weddings.
