This is a 1965 poster of the Singapore play “When Smiles are Done” written by playwright Goh Poh Seng. Goh was an early pioneer in the local theatre scene and one of the first to write about Singapore contexts with a cast of local and familiar characters. Goh was also the founder of early amateur theatre company, Centre 65. Centre 65 boasted some illustrious members including Rosie Seow, mother of playwright Stella Kon. Stella Kon is an award-winning Singapore playwright whose most important work was the 1983 one-woman play, Emily of Emerald Hill. She is also a descendent of two prominent Peranakan philanthropists, Tan Tock Seng and Dr Lim Boon Keng.
