Come to Malaya: Travel by Train

This is a brochure titled ‘Come to Malaysia: Travel by Train’. Train travel expanded in the first half of the 20th century with the founding of the Federated Malay States Railways (FMSR), proposed by Frank Swettenham, the first resident-general of the Federated Malay States. The FMSR consolidated disparate railways across Malaya and expanded and integrated the rail network. This included a connection in Singapore, to the Tanjong Pagar Railway Station. The FMSR would eventually become the Keretapi Tanah Melayu, or KTM rail, in 1962. This brochure includes maps of Penang and Ipoh. The latter housed a late-Edwardian Baroque style station. This brochure was published in May 1937.
