This highly unusual Indian colonial silver teapot is finely chased around the body with realistic, full grown, fruit laden banana palms. The handle is engraved as a bamboo stem while the underside of the ‘S’-shaped spout is embellished with banana palms. The format of the teapot is reminiscent of a Chinese porcelain teapot, as the chasing which is also reminiscent of Chinese silverwork. The teapot is unmarked but the chasing suggests its genesis in Calcutta.
