This is a made-in-China Seagull Camera of model number 205. Seagull cameras were popular with families in Singapore in the 1970s and 1980s as they were considered affordable as compared to their Japanese counterparts. This camera was the first camera purchased by the donor’s father in 1980 and served as the first family camera. The camera plays a special role in the family history of the donor as many of the family’s special moments were captured by this camera. Meant to record the family’s outings and occasions, the possession of a camera in the 1970s and 1980s shows the rising affluence of the society and the increased leisure time and activities families enjoyed.
