This is a fine example of chikankari embroidery. The tradition of chikankari embroidery can be traced back to the 18th century and the rule of the Nawabs of Oudh; the centre of production being Lucknow, in present day Uttar Pradesh. Executed on fine white cotton using white thread, chikankari embroidery primarily comprises of floral decoration. The chikankari embroidery also bears close resemblance to the white on white technique used by the jamdani weavers of the Bengal region
