Untitled is a series of five video channels that depict the artist pouring a bucket of sand over himself in five different lakes in Cambodia's capital of Phnom Penh. During the period of its making, many of Phnom Penh's lakes were being sold, at times illegally, by the Cambodian government to private investors who would then reclaim the lakes to produce land for urban development. This resulted in over 4000 families being displaced as the once-lively lake communities were systematically eradicated. Many of these residents received only meager compensation, and protests over exploitation have continually been met harshly by the government. Khay Samnang entered these lakes secretly when security on the sites left for their breaks. His symbolic but rather futile act of pouring one bucket of sand over himself speaks of the haplessness of the lake communities, resigned and powerless against their fate that is to come. Samnang's work has been exhibited in Berlin, USA, the Netherlands and Cambodia.
