This pair of scissors used to belong to Mrs Grace Linus, a homemaker who came to Singapore before the war from Kerala, India. She used it along with a sewing machine (which was donated at the same time) to tailor clothes for her children and sew curtains and other household items for the house. The pair of scissors and the sewing machine reflect social life from the 1940s to the 1970s when it was common for mothers to sew clothes and other household items for the family, saving household expenses and reflecting the spirit of self-sufficiency and creativity at the same time.
