This small image of a bodhisattva probably comes from a pantheon of tantric Buddhist deities, that would have been used in a ritual grouping or mandala. The figure sits on a lotus base with legs in the double lotus position, his left arm holds a lotus stem, whilst the right grasps a vajra or ritual thunder bolt to hist chest. He is adorned with a raised headdress, tiara, armbands and bracelets. The piece would have been modelled in wax and then cast into bronze. The finely worked spiky style of modelling is one of the features characteristic of a large group of ritual bronzes found in the early 20th century from the district of Nganjuk near Kediri in East Java.
