This jar is very rare in its form and is a significant example of early Iranian ceramic. It is possible that the form of the jar, opaque white glaze, and green splashes were influenced by Chinese late Tang wares and Islamic Mesopotamia wares (present day Iraq). The production of opaque white glazed wares in Islamic Mesopotamia in the late 8th to the 10th centuries reveals the beginning of a widespread tradition that spread across the Islamic world and eventually to Europe. It also illustrates the exchanges of style and techniques between Tang China and Abbasid Iraq which eventually influenced Iranian pottery production.
