This is a white top that would have been worn as part of the 'chiu thau' outfit for the newlywed couple. This outfit would have been worn when the coming of age hair combing ceremony was conducted on the first day of the 12 day wedding ceremony. This ceremony would be conducted at the respective homes of the bride and groom in front of the 'sam kai' altar, an altar of the Peranakan Chinese family erected only during weddings and on the birthday of the Jade Emperor Ting Kong on the ninth day of the lunar new year.
