This gold ring is richly decorated with diamonds in a cross pattern. Rings were at times made in pairs and often worn by Peranakan women on the third or fourth finger. They were often presented along with other pieces of jewellery like earrings and necklaces from the groom's family to the bride's during the lap chai (gift exchange) ceremony which preceded the traditional Peranakan wedding. Alternatively, they could also have been presented as part of the wedding dowry of a bride.
