This set comprises three gold star brooches linked together with a chain. Known in Baba Malay as kerosang rantay, this set of brooches demonstrates a relatively high level of craftmanship. Star-shaped brooches such as these were popularly used by Peranakans from Penang during the early to mid 20th century. Peranakan women would wear kerosang to fasten their kebayas or baju panjang. Peranakan men at times would also wear individual brooches as accessories on their hats or on their jacket lapels.
