This jar is an example of export Chinese silver pieces used as trophies or commemorative objects. It is decorated in repoussé with floral and court scenes and were made by well known Chinese silversmiths in the between the mid to late 19th century. Such Chinese export silver items were regularly produced from the 18th to mid 20th century. Though earlier pieces tended to imitate European aesthetics and motifs, increased awareness and demand resulted in the introduction of Chinese motifs and decorations.
