This is a white embroidered valance with lacework and floral motifs. Lace began to find favour amongst Peranakan Chinese women from the early to mid 20th century through the influence of European styles of decoration. Such valances would have been found hanging from brass wedding beds, instead of the more traditional wooden beds.
