This programme is for the 1987 production of Zaman Sekarang put on by the Gunong Sayang Association for the 1987 Drama Festival after Pileh Menantu sparked a new interest in Peranakan theatre in the 1980s. Unlike in the 1950s, the cast contained both men and women. Directed by William Tan, a star of the Peranakan stage in the 1950s, Zaman Sekarang is about an old-fashioned mother wanting to match-make her two sons only to find they have chosen brides for themselves that do not live up to her expectations. The play concludes with the mother realizing that times have changed.
