This is a souvenir magazine, written in Chinese, commemorating the completion of the Kay Wah School Branch One school building expansion programmeFollowing the Marco Polo Bridge Incident on 7 July 1937 in China, overseas Chinese in Singapore led by Tan Kah Kee set up the China Relief Fund to assist in the anti-Japanese war effort. One of the fund's goals was to improve the organisation structure for mobilising the local Chinese communities and it was with this goal in mind that Tan Kah Kee and Hou Say Huan called for the consolidation and merging of rural schools.Neo Tiew (Leong Huo Chu, 1884-1975) agreed to lead a group of local community leaders in Lim Chu Kang in their efforts to consolidate the resources of all Chinese village schools in the area. The result was the establishment of Kay Wah School in 1938 at Ama Keng Village.
