These two tierred offerings vessels, also known as hsun ok or mingala ok (festive vessels), have multiple trays for carrying food, betel quids and other offerings to the temple. They were made with coiled bamboo, lacquered red inside and black outside.Black lacquerware of this type were typically made in the village of Kyaukkya near Monywa in Upper Burma. Wealthy families carried them to the temple during festivals. They are also associated with the popular image of the young male assistant, who helps with temple duties often depicted in Burmese art carrying such vessels on a pole over his shoulder.
