This brandy glass was purchased for family use in the 1950s-1960s by a Singapore Peranakan family. The glass is suggestive of the Westernized lifestyle enjoyed by the Peranakans in the early to mid-twentieth century. The bond between the Peranakan community and colonial powers had a clear influence on the lifestyles of Singaporean Peranakans in particular, as seen in the ‘modern’ style of Baba house that can be seen in Singapore.
