This is a passport issued by the Chinese Consulate General in Singapore in February 1947 to a Cantonese merchant, Mr Leong Kawn Hin (梁玖谦). His native place is Zhongshan in Guangdong province, China. The Chinese government began establishing consulates in Southeast Asia in the 1870s, with the aim of garnering the support of overseas Chinese. In Singapore, the first consulate was established in 1877. Its status was changed to Consulate General in 1891.
