This large bowl, nearly 1/2-metre in diameter, is the work of an Iranian potter imitating designs from Chinese blue and white ceramics. Several centres in Iran started manufacturing blue and white wares during the 16th century, after Chinese examples were traded into the region. The Iranian products imitate the shapes, designs, and decoration of Chinese porcelain while incorporating traditional Iranian elements.
