Kantha is quilted embroidery done by the women of Bengal, India. The women create bed spreads, wraps and book or mirror covers among others either for domestic use or as gifts. The Kantha are influenced by the rural scenes, city life and modernisation, mythological scenes or depict floral and vine motifs. They are produced from recycled cloth and yarn of old saris. This is striking example of kantha embroidery incorporating 4 large paisleys in the corner and a central floral motif.
