This hanging depicts a bird on a leafy branch, surrounded by Chinese calligraphy. It is bordered by floral patterns. The calligraphy on the left features a poem by Cao Bin (曹豳), a Chinese poet of the Song dynasty. The poem is titled ‘Late Spring’ (春暮) and writes about the sceneries during late spring and the poet’s joy for the upcoming Summer. The calligraphy on the right features a poem by Lu Meipo (卢梅坡), a Chinese poet of the Southern Song dynasty. The poem is titled ‘Snow and Plum Blossom: Second of Two Poems’ （雪梅二首（其二））and is about the indispensable relationship between snow, plum blossom and poem during Spring.
