Pair of Bally shoes

This pair of Bally leather shoes has a classic design. They are slightly pointed in front and are quite low heeled. The shoes belonged to Mrs. Irene Lim, who liked to pair them with her cheongsam outfits.Mrs. Lim was born in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to a Peranakan family who settled down in Singapore in 1928. She was exposed to the cheongsam from a very young age by her mother Ms. Edna Kung, who was often dressed in a chic cheongsam. Her mother also contributed regularly to a fashion column at The Straits Times. Initially, Mrs. Lim wore the cheongsam to assert her identity as a Chinese. Later, she favoured the one-piece dress because it was extremely convenient to wear and easy to match with her accessories. She also liked the fact that the form-fitting cheongsam helped to keep her slim over the years.
