This is a Certificate of Registration belonging to a Chinese immigrant, Leong Him, who became a Singaporean citizen in 1958. The Registrar's stamp shows the date '6 Jan 1958'.The Citizenship Ordinance of 1957 gave Singapore citizenship to all people born in Singapore on or before 1 March 1957. The law also allowed British citizens or citizens of the Federation of Malaya to apply for Singapore citizenship after having resided in Singapore for two years. In addition, citizenship was also offered to those who had resided in Singapore for a decade and swore loyalty to the government.
