This photograph is part of a series which depicts the sights and scenes of 19th and 20th century Singapore.This picture shows a police contingent at the Queen’s Birthday Parade on the Padang on 5 June 1952. It was Queen Elizabeth II’s first birthday since her accession to the throne in the same year. Although the Queen was actually born on 21 April 1926, it was customary to celebrate the British sovereign’s birthday publicly on a day during the summer, when better weather is more likely.
