This bowl is decorated with the motifs of the crane and flowers of the four seasons. The crane symbolises both status and longevity. The flowers of four seasons comprised of the peony, lotus, chrysanthemum and plum blossom, each representing spring, summer, autumn and winter respectively. Such overglaze polychrome enamelled porcelain or Nonyaware could be part of the elaborate 'tok panjang' dinner service which refers to dining at home on special occasions. Such a dinner service could comprise several hundred to several thousand pieces of plates, bowls and spoons of varying sizes.
