'Yingqing' (shadow-blue) or 'qingbai' (bluish-white) porcelain is a well known type of ceramics fired in the Jingdezhen area since the Song period (960-1279). The best examples have a glossy, light-blue glaze.Vessels from the earlier part of this period were mainly plain or simply decorated. The shapes and designs became more elaborate during the middle Northern Song period. Popular forms included the bowl and ewer. Pieces like this vase with an elaborate base formed by radiating chrysanthemum petals are rare.
