Standing figure of St. Michael vanquishing the Devil

This polychrome painted, wooden figure of St.Michael has a youthful face with glass inserts for eyes, a fitted cap and an armoured breast plate. He wears tall boots and a cloak hung over the left shoulder. He stands triumphantly on top of a disembowled satan with left arm outstretched to hold a spear (now missing). Many Vietnamese converted to Catholicism during the French colonial period. Depictions of St. Michael can be found in the stained glasswork of St.Joseph's church in Hanoi and in a painting in Notre Dame Cathedral in Ho Chi Minh City.
