Imported handkerchiefs from Europe, such as this, were bought by some Peranakan women. They reflect the pre-war embroidered Chinese handkerchiefs in function but were dissimilar in choice of colours and motifs. Some of these handkerchiefs were personalised with embroidered initials of the owner.
