Reclining Beauty

Born in 1941 in Malaysia, Tay Chee Toh studied at Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, Singapore and has a postgraduate degree in oil painting from China. He is a versatile artist, and his oeuvre of figurative and abstract works includes paintings, sculptures and prints. A recipient of numerous painting and sculpture awards, Tay was presented with the Cultural Medallion by the Singapore government in 1985, and in that same year, he was declared the winner of the UOB Painting of the Year Competition. He has travelled and exhibited widely around Europe and Asia. ‘Reclining Beauty’ is part of the Body Lines series of sculptures on the human figure that is developed from abstract paintings Tay executed in the 1990s.
