This poster was used to advertise the Hollywood movie, ‘King Solomon's Mines’. Directed by John Lee Thompson, the action-adventure movie starred Richard Chamberlain as African big-game hunter Allan Quatermain and Sharon Stone as his love interest, Jesse Huston. The movie was one of several that were based loosely on the 1885 novel of the same title by British writer Sir Henry Rider Haggard (1856–1925), who was known for his signature ‘Lost World’ literary genre that romanticised the colonial conquest of Africa.
