Born in 1981 in Indonesia, Erik Muhammad Pauhrizi graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from the Faculty of Art and Design, Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), Indonesia. His early works revolve around issues of identity and portraiture but since his move to Berlin, he has developed an interest in conceptually driven art. Recently he embarked on a series of light-based works where light serves as a metaphor for existential reality and awareness. He has exhibited in Asia, Europe and USA.In ‘Modern Memory – Adika’, the monochromatic palette and evocative quality of washes of paint, which in turn allow areas of unpainted digital print to show through, contribute to a brooding atmosphere. The work is very much about the fragility of memory and transience of human life, but at the same time it is, on a more personal and intimate level, coloured by subjective impressions and imperfect recollections.
