This is wooden mould probably used in the making of Ang Ku Kueh (Red turtle cake), which is a common Peranakan Chinese snack. Such kuehs are usually made from ground rice and flour. The Ang Ku Kueh is usually consumed as part of a main meal or snack on a daily basis. It was also served during festive occasions such as Chinese New Year as red is an auspicious colour in the Chinese culture, symbolising good fortune and prosperity.
