Roller

This roller has a raised parallel design. Clay rollers like this example were often found with the Late Period grave goods. While there is little evidence for their function, it has been suggested these rollers were used to apply decorations to textiles and fabrics. They were probably dipped in dyes before stamping patterns onto textiles. The excavations of burial sites in Thailand uncovered a previously unknown and aesthetically distinctive pottery tradition. Pottery was found with skeletal remains, glass beads as well as iron and bronze bracelets, demonstrating an elegance, sophistication and attention to decorative detail that exceed mere utilitarian needs.
