Internationally established Vasan Sitthiket, born in 1957, is amongst Thailand’s most socially vocal artists. A painter, playwright, poet, musician, performance artist and politician, he founded the Thai Artists’ Party in 2005. Trained at the College of Fine Arts in Bangkok, Vasan’s visually innovative and seductive work tackles the many ills plaguing contemporary Thai society through expressions ranging from irony and caricature to the subtlest metaphor. He has participated in many exhibitions, triennales and biennales in Japan, Singapore, Indonesia, Australia, USA, Korea and Italy.‘American Dream’ portrays a white dog dressed in a blue suit, black boots and top hat embellished with stars and stripes ,as its central figure. This work criticizes the shameless advertising of the American propaganda, an almost utopian vision that stands on the ethos of liberty and democracy.
