Born in 1964 in Lophuri, Thailand, Kamin Lertchaiprasert graduated from Silpakorn University in 1987. From 1987 to 1992, save for a period in 1990 when he became a monk, he was based in New York, working and attending art school. He returned to Thailand in 1992. Since 1987, Kamin has held several solo exhibitions in the region, and participated in international exhibitions such as the Second Asia Pacific Triennale (1996). Working in a variety of mediums, Kamin’s art questions the role of art in society.‘Glory of Love’ is a triptych of the artist clutching to an amorphous figure, mystified by the glow from a brooding dark background. An early work of Kamin, painted while he was in New York, it displays raw and intense emotions. Here, the figure stares out at the viewer with haunting and sorrowful eyes. Combined with powerful, expressive brushstrokes, the work reflects the turmoil Kamin faced. The figure also resembles a series of self-portraits he created in 1986 which explored mental agony.
