This 'sarong' or skirt cloth is a hand-drawn batik with geometric designs and a floral lattice motif in the centrefield.Batik cloths from Jambi are distinctive for their colour schemes and designs which relate closely to both Indian trade textile designs from the 17th and 18th century as well as Javanese influences from the 19th century. The colour schemes usually comprise indigo and red as well as a rich golden yellow. Production of these cloths was probably a response to the dwindling supply of Indian trade textiles which had previously dominated the local market.
