This is a large, octagonal slip-decorated storage jar with stand made from stone or earthernware. The jar is separated into panels and the decorations alternate between birds and floral motifs. This include motifs of roosters and pairs of birds in flight. These jars could be used to store staples such as rice and water and were used by the Peranakan Chinese in their kitchens. The contents were kept cool and safe from rodents and other pests, especially when covered with a wooden lid and raised off the ground with a stand.
