This print depicts a family worshipping its ancestor.It is customary to pay respects to ancestors on special occasions such as the Chinese New Year, Qing Ming Festival (清明节) and Hungry Ghost Festival (中元节). Although actual procedures differ according to places and religions, the usual ritual involves offering food and flowers to the deceased. Ancestor worship is an act of filial piety which seeks to honour the deeds and memories of the dearly departed.This print was produced in Taohuawu, a village in Suzhou province famous for its new year prints, which are characterised by vibrant colour schemes.
