Dessert dish

This is a circular silver dish, its motifs done using the techniques of repousse and chasing. The decorative motifs on this piece are designed in concentric circles. The innermost centre circle is decorated with motifs of sitted deer amongst lush flora. The deer is symbolic of longevity. There is a second concentric circle filled with motifs of fish, lobster and crab, the seafood possibly representing the theme of abundance. The outermost concentric circle is also filled with pairs of fish, lobster and floral motifs. This is possibly a dessert dish commissioned by wealthy Peranakan families for use during the traditional 12 day wedding ceremony.
