Born in 1946 in Singapore, Chng Seok Tin studied art in Singapore, UK, France and USA from 1971 to 1985. Chng has held over 25 solo and 90 group exhibitions and most of her oeuvre occupies a pivotal place in modern printmaking practice in Singapore. Her art practice, which premised on themes of nature and the human condition, extends to drawing, painting, collage, mixed media, photography, sculpture and installation. Due to her visual impairment in 1988, Chng has turned to creating more sculptural and mixed media works. For her relentless spirit and contributions to the arts, Chng was conferred the Cultural Medallion by the Singapore government in 2005.‘Know All, Win All’ is from a series of works that showcases Chng's literary leanings as well as her philosophical insights based on Zen teachings. The Chinese almanac, according to Chng, is one of the most popular and widely used books in China as it covers issues from the necessities of life to the laws of the universe. For this piece, created with pages from the Chinese almanac, sand and acrylic paint, the almanac, which also serves as a predictive tool, is being satirically scrutinized.
