This is a “Kueh” or cake mould made in the shape of a rose. The batter from the mixture of ingredients such as eggs, sugar and flour would be poured into a mould such as this and baked. Nonya cakes and desserts include “kueh belanda”, “kueh bakol” and pineapple tarts among others. Besides being served during Chinese New Year, many of these cakes and desserts were served at festivals such as All Souls Day, the Fifth and Seventh lunar month as well as at weddings, birthdays and funerals.
